Where to buy Metal Stamping Blanks in Manila?

by - March 03, 2015

This is a continuation of my post Where to buy Metal Stamps in Manila? where I have listed a number of local craft stores that sell metal stamps.

So you already have your metal stamps, bench block, and hammer. The next question is, where do you get your stamping blanks? Stamping blanks, by default, are really expensive. In fact, having metal stamping as a hobby is quite an investment, so you really need to plan or strategize how you'll be able to sustain this hobby once you jump into it.

Let me share with you some tips and a list of local craft shops that I've found to be offering stamping blanks.

For starters, I suggest you first go with aluminum blanks. Aluminum is cheap, even way cheaper than copper, before you spend your hard-earned money on sterling silver and gold-filled blanks so as to avoid messing them on your first stamps. Do take note, however, that aluminum is softer than all the other metals, so you may want to get a lower gauge, 18 to 20,  but 24 gauge will do. I am using 24 gauge aluminum for my projects and my clients are satisfied with it.

Here is a list of Philippine-based online stores that are carrying metal stamping blanks:

1. Jigs and Clays

I giggled when I found out about Jigs and Clays since they are offering a variety of stamping blanks for a relatively affordable price. They have aluminum and brass stamping blanks which are locally manufactured. They also carry imported stamping blanks, which are, of course, of a higher price.

I would say, from all the local shops that I've found, it would probably be from Jigs and Clays that I would most likely purchase stamping blanks from.

2. Chain Beads and Components

If you're familiar with Wellmansons, Chain Beads and Components is a similar shop that is also located along Villalobos St. in Quiapo. They also have a Facebook page where you can place your orders online if you do not have the time to go and visit their boutique.

CBC is selling economic stamping blanks of various shapes and sizes for as low as Php 2.00 each! You'll fall in love with the different shapes they offer, but just be warned that these are alloys that I am unsure of whether they are lead-free or not. I've been thinking for sometime to purchase from them but this thought has always been holding me back. I inquired as to what material was used for molding the blanks, and they said that they were lead-free, but you wouldn't always be sure of what the retailer would say.

In addition, these blanks are not polished very well, but if you're after for the peso you can save, you may look into this option, just take note of the risks.

3. DIY Crafts PH

DIY Crafts PH (formerly Metal Stamping PH) is a distributor of the ImpressArt brand, a premium US-brand metal stamps. They carry pewter, alkeme, aluminum, brass, copper, and nickel silver stamping blanks. These are quite pricey though as they are imported from the United States.

4. Pick and Grab

Pick and Grab is an online store that specializes on customized and handmade gifts. They also manufacture circle stamping blanks in aluminum and brass.

5. Craft Ship

Craft Ship offers metal stamping tools and brass stamping blanks in circles and bracelet strips.

6. Purple Nook Clay Shop
[UPDATE 2016: Upon checking, they've already stopped offering metal stamping blanks.]

Purple Nook is a craft shop specializing in polymer clay tools and supplies, but they are offering stamping blanks as well, specifically, aluminum, brass, and copper, though I haven't really inquired as to how much they are selling these.

If you want to know how you can DIY your own stamping blanks, check out these two entries below:

As a recap, below is a list of basic tools and materials you'll need to get you moving with metal stamping:

  • metal stamps (check out Where to buy Metal Stamps in Manila? for a list of some local craft shops selling metal stamps)
  • stamping blanks
  • bench block
  • hammer (16 oz or heavier)
  • sharpie (or other inking material)
  • polisher/buffer
  • metal puncher

If you guys know other local suppliers of metal stamping tools and supplies, please feel free to share. I would love to get updated as well. Thanks! Teehee. :)
