Mythspace: Lift Off and Uncommon Ground + I want Crime-Fighting Call Center Agents (back to comics #2)

by - April 23, 2015

I was not sure if I really wanted to write about Mythspace, but I wanted to document the steps I take in going back to comics. So after going through Stories from the Diabolical (back to comics #1) from the Trese series by Budjette and Kajo, I had Mythspace (Chikiamco, et al) next in my list.

I had a copy of Lift Off (Chikiamco and Carreon) and Uncommon Ground (Chikiamco and Dimagiba), which I got from Komikon 2013. I remember back then that my comics buddies were so excited about it that was why I decided to grab a copy as well to see what they had been enthusiastic about. After one and a half years, I finally set my eyes inside the pages of Mythspace.

I don't hate it, but I am not sure if I like it either; however, I am certain to say that I am curious about it, of how it will proceed in the long run. I guess I still really haven't learned to love the sci-fi genre. It is good innovation though to mash up Philippine folklore with all things related to space and aliens and galaxies.

Between Lift Off and Uncommon Ground, I am more in favor of the latter. I like its cover, definitely, and for me it also has a more interesting turn of events. Kapres being reliable case solvers, a species anyone can rely on; they seemed to be the (almost) good guys, evident in Lift Off as well. I am used to tikbalangs holding this position because of Makabo from Skyworld (Mervin Ignacio and Ian Sta. Maria), and now we have kapres.

There is now an anthology of Mythspace in bookstores; I see it every time I drop by National Bookstore. I am not yet sure if I will get a copy. Maybe I will; I think I will so I can feed my curiosity, but not so soon. And I guess having to read all the stories within it would allow me to appreciate it more. I want to know the progress of the character of Va-lis-ya.

On a different note, I miss Crime-Fighting Call Center Agents (Noel Pascual and AJ Bernardo). While doing a bit of research on how to read Mythspace, CFCCA popped up in the search engine list. Gaaaak, it is now up to book 6! I need to get a copy of books 4 to 6!

CFCCA will always be my go-to, feel-good comics. I can't wait to splurge on books 4 to 6.

I will attend this year's Komikon. I will attend this year's Komikon.
